Roto Rooter is as good as any other plumber, not better, but their prices are two to five times as much as others. I saw much bait -and -switch on their website., also.. They do NOT give free estimates, as they say, and you are charged over a hundred dollars for them merely showing up at your door.
We were getting new laminate countertops, and needed a plumber to disconnect the sink plumbing and garbage disposal. Their plumber, Dave, here in CT, charged us $625.00 for his fifteen minutes of work, and said it would cost another $700 to re-install the sink and garbage disposal; and our total cost would be over $1300!!, I talked to a plumber friend from out of state (so he was not trying to steal the job), and he told us to RUN from this company! There is no possible rationale for this price,
When I called to complain about this plumber to a supervisor, she was completely supportive of her worker. .. even though his online report exaggerated what he did (which she said would not change their price).
In the end, we found a local independent plumber to re-install the sink and dishwasher and two screws from the dishwasher for $120.
My suggestion is to always hire local workers who need your word-of-mouth positive reference, and will be far less likely to rip you off. Also, do not let them know you are ignorant of what is and is not a good price. Finally, don’t be older and don’t be female. Roto Rooter has no shame.
