Deception vs incompetence
Unfortunately our experience with Jon Wayne Service Company was awful. Although the technicians were polite and prompt, their assessment was inaccurate, causing me to wonder if it was intentional deception or simple incompetence. I called to see if they had a solution to cool the upstairs of my home which only has one A/C unit. They told me there was a leak in the coils, it was low on freon, and I needed a new system ASAP. They encouraged me to purchase a new system at a cost of $29,900 - but they had a convenient payment plan. They also encouraged a freon charge for a hefty fee, although I don't remember precisely what they quoted. I had not had problems with the unit except poor cooling upstairs since the house was built 10 years prior. I politely declined their offer and they left. I later had another A/C company come out for the same purpose, all the while with the downstairs quite cool and comfortable. He said that there was no leak in the coils and that the freon level was fine. He explained possible causes of the freon level falsely appearing low which any technician should know. He offered a couple of solutions to the poor upstairs cooling and thoroughly explained each one and the likely cost. There was no pressure with "special deals today only". We purchased a zoned system a year later and are quite please with it. It was vastly cheaper than the system quoted by Jon Wayne and we had time proceed at a time that was comfortable for us. I did not appreciate the deceptive (or incompetent) practices by Jon Wayne.
