I stuck doggedly with the old pool service (rhymes with Oh Dear Pool) until they charged over $200 in two successive months for what turned out to be the wrong chemicals, which were naturally ineffective at controlling the algae I was getting. Geez. Switched to Sac Valley who quickly got my pool cleaned up. I was brushing all the time and now don't at all. No rainbow of colors on the walls any more. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
