We took our 4 year old frenchie in on Sunday night around 11:30pm, 9/17/17. We rushed him up there as advised by our regular vet. They make you go through all the tests they feel are necessary and give you an estimate, which you have to pay before they treat your animal, which is understandable. The Dr. was very sympathetic and seem to genuinely care, he saw the pain our dog was in and helped make him more comfortable with pain meds. The Dr. also took his time to run the right tests and diagnose him properly. Our only issue was the place closed at 7am, which he did not know, had we known, we would've just taken him to the U of M. Thus, the Dr. called us at 6:30am (to avoid rush hour, very nice of him) and referred us to the U of M vet hospital. Our only issue is/was that, they most likely knew he would need more care at the U of M, and they could've told us that from the beginning. However, I understand they had to run tests and monitor him to come to this conclusion. I would recommend if its the closest Emergency Vet. But, if you know you're pet is in a life or death situation, I would take them to the U of M ASAP. All in all, the doctors and techs at SMAEC were helpful, particularly Dr. Birch. He even called us the next day to ask how he was doing.
