Quality 1st Basements

Left my sump pump unplugged, resulting in basement flooding

I had Quality 1st out to do some insulation work on two crawl spaces off my basement (Feb 2015). In the midst of their work, they unplugged my sump pump. Now that winter is finally thawing out, water is again flowing, so I had the distinct pleasure of returning home from work last night to 4" of water in my basement. I waded through the standing water, risking life and limb in the event there was live electricity, to plug my sump pump back in, within 30 minutes, the water had fully drained, barring some mopping where water pooled in some spots. I now have to replace my water heater, have my boiler, washer, dryer and freezer checked out, throw away some yet to be assembled Ikea cabinets we had bought for a kitchen reno, as well as toss out a number of smaller items and clean and apply preventative measures to ensure mold doesn't spawn.

When I called Quality 1st about the issue, as their crew clearly left the sump pump unplugged (I didn't do it, my wife didn't do it, and my 15 month old son who can't negotiate stairs or reach the outlet didn't do it), the woman I spoke with informed me that it was 'not uncommon for them to unplug the sump pump and leave it unplugged', which I immediately questioned. She then informed me that the before and after pictures the crew took do not indicate that they left the sump pump unplugged (I've asked for copies of the photos). I was then escalated to the customer service manager, Juan.

Juan said that they will not cover any of the losses, and the best they could do would be to help me clean up (already did that) and that they could bring by some industrial dehumidifiers to help dry the basement out. It took some wrangling to get them to come out with the dehumidifiers today, they originally offered Friday afternoon (I have a job) and then Saturday (they would be moot at that point, we need to dry now, not in two days), so we will see if they make good on their promise.

They also said that they would not cover my insurance deductible, if I can even file a claim for the loss.

Clearly not a stand up company that is interested in having a Quality 1st reputation or customer service experience. The measure of a good organization is how they treat people when things do not go in their favor, not how they treat you when everything is right as rain (no pun intended).
