TL;DR: Didn't try to scam us.
Long version: we had Cropp Metcalfe come out to look at a water heater that had gone cold. Technician claimed that the unit quit because 6 CLOSED paint cans were within 5 feet of the unit. Claimed it would take three weeks and $1200.00 to replace the part (during which time we'd be out of water), or we could buy a new water heater for $5,000.00 and have it by the next morning. Called JCF immediately after he CM left and the technician cleaned the flame sensor and got us up and running for $250.00.
I no that I don't know snot about HVAC/Plumbing and am willing to pay a premium for expert work; but CM's conduct was outrageous. Immediately cancelled our service contract with CM and will soon sign up with JCF.
