We needed a roofing contractor to re-roof our 2828 square foot, Jacksonville Florida house, requiring 41 squares of shingles.

Many investigative hours were spent searching various websites. From this research a list of carefully selected roofing contractors emerged. This list sprang mostly from the positive comments of many satisfied customers.

Nine contractors were chosen to submit bids but A.J. Wells stood out as the first-place leader as he garnered the greatest number of positive comments.

The estimates began arriving, but after receiving seven solid bids the remaining two contractors were called and a cancellation was placed for each of their forthcoming appointments.

The seven contracts were reviewed and the lowest and highest bids were tossed out. Interestingly the difference between them was $2249.00. Each of these two bids were individually about $1125 away negatively or positively from the average remaining bids.

The monetary difference between the five remaining contractors was respectably close. In one instance only thirty dollars {$30.00} separated two bids.

With a tight competitive bid A. J. Wells was situated in the middle of the pack but this roofer held a commanding first place lead in other categories.

Guss Plair arrived earlier than his promised appointment time and he introduced himself as the estimator before he began measuring the roof. Guss provided answers and workable solutions to fix existing problems and he never wavered from his good-natured demeanor as he was bombarded with a multitude of questions.

Guss provided proof of insurance along with other legal documentation during his first visit. He also provided his cell phone number and he was extremely fast in returning my calls.

Guss applied for and secured the required city & county permits. The building inspector came twice during the job and he did an in depth inspection both times.

A.J. Wells provides their own roll off dumpsters so there is no need to wait for a dumpster company to remove dumpsters.

Protective coverings were placed over the shrubbery and under the roof-line. These coverings caught the majority of the nails and small pieces of roof material. The final picking up nails took place with a sweep of the property with a wheeled magnet.

From start to finish an excellent job foreman (David Lopez) was always present during the roofing process. Guss also showed up at various times as the job progressed.

The wind mitigation form (is included with A. J. Wells) and this was initiated, filled out and certified by Guss after he inspected and took pictures of the decking, nail spacing, underlayment and shingles. He also included documentation and pictures of the hurricane anchor devices and hurricane shutters. This significantly reduced the cost of our homeowners insurance.

No money was required to be paid (and several payment methods are acceptable) until the job was completed. Guss included proof of payment by A. J. Wells to the provider of the roof material before I was required to pay for this job.

Guss accomplished and submitted the necessary paperwork to Owens Corning for the 50-year material warranty and the 10-year labor warranty.
