I was out of town and learned that I had an inoperable water heater at a tenants home; it was the weekend and this company said they could send someone right out. Initially , they said that they would be there by 11:00. Later, they called and said it would be closer to 3:30. The technician (Michael) called me at about 3;15 and told me that it was likely the thermocouple wire and would cost about $200.00 to repair. I told him to go ahead and gave him my cc number. He called about 20 minutes later and told me that the whole thermocupler unit would have to be replaced to the tune of over $400. I asked him if he could determine the age of the unit and he replied that it was installed in 2002; and that he could get a new unit in that same day for $1600. I asked him to email his bid to me while I thought it over. I took no action and returned to town the following day. I went thru my paperwork - the WH was installed in 2012 by Sears. That same day I was contacted by Jordan who identified himself as a manager and asked if I was interested in having them install a new WH. He seemed surprised when I explained that I had never received the written proposal; he said he would send it right out. He did apologize for his employees "mistake" regarding the age of the WH. I contacted Sears; they came out and replaced a bad circuit board ($200). I still have not received the email from Preferred. To put it mildly, I have never written an online review but decided to do so because I believed that the Preferred Plumbing and Drain employee was trying to sell me a WH that I didn't need and exaggerated the cost of the repair.
