Horrible experience

We had a leak on our DR ceiling and we called them , tech arrieved pretty quickly. He said for him to find out what's the exact cause , he has to cut a hole on the ceiling to see what's going on and that will cost $160 but then once he knows we can use that amount towards the repairs. So we agreed .
He cut the hole, checked everything and couldn't find the exact cause . He said it could be the roof , it could be that was accumulated water and it burst , water got out from the bath etc , but since he doesn't know what it is he can't fix anything .
Sooo
I asked him so now this is costing me $160 he said no actually $160.31 ( unbelievable .31)
Anyway he left without fixing anything or finding exact cause but instead a bunch of could be 's.
Now we have to higher someone to see what's going on and then someone else who can put the drywall and paint .
How was that a free diagnosis when they didn't even diagnose anything but charged me $160.31 ??????

I apologize if you misunderstood, our policy is that we come out to your home at no charge to give an estimate, however we do not diagnose leaks at no charge. A cost was given to you to search for the leak that was coming through your dining room ceiling. Our technician told you it would be $150.00 + NJ State Sales Tax to open the ceiling and check for a plumbing leak. Upon opening the ceiling the technician inspected the plumbing in the area of the water damage and he could not get a leak to reoccur. Had he found a plumbing leak he would have given you an estimate for repair. He requested that you leave the ceiling open for a short time to see if the leak reappears.
