AAMCO Transmission and Total Car Care

Started off great ended bad!!!

I never review a company unless it's extremely bad or really great..I feel anywhere you are spending your hard earned coins you should get great customer service. I really hope the folks at aamaco on Dunn ave never needs a doctor and gets the service they gave from that doctor...Well let me say I read the reviews and one stuck out...about how good they were but after a manager left now it's declining in what a dog even deserves...respect. I called around to several shops because my baby was having some hard shifting..now I came across some good places but decided to call aamaco because it has been there for years and felt to give a business in my area a try. At first I was glad I did because a nice unrushed voice picked up..he said he was the manager and I began my story about my car...his words exactly was yes those cars have a known issue and sometimes you don't have to rebuild or get a new transmission..you can rebuild the valve body or replace solenoids..I CAN SAVE YOU ALOT OF MONEY...well who doesn't want to save a lot of money because rebuilds are close to 3000 bucks...but truly saving money isn't always good especially if the work is jacked up..but I really wanted to find a shop that understood my car and didn't want to just say replace tranny no if ands or buts..this guy was so nice and making me feel comfortable. He said to get a diagnosis it would be FREE..and not where you pay only if you don't have your work done there but free regardless of if you use them or not. He even offered to set up towing with the tow guys they use...I was clear that would not be free 65 bucks but was ok with that. The tow guys didn't pick up the car until late and the manager of the company was great because he saw a issue with his service and fixed it..he said I'm sorry for the confusion and the tow is on me because of the mix up.. So next day the manager calls me and say that my car needs a rebuild 2600 to 3100 be cause the fluid was dark and it was more than the valve body...he told me about there financing option and I thanked him for just being professional..I said let me talk it over with my husband he said no problem I'm going home because I'm tired call me tomorrow the earlier the better so they could start working if I gave the go ahead.. That's a lot of money so I needed a minute to process the fact that it would be 429 just to tear the tranny down to see what needed to be replaced...managers words the 429 would be deducted from the cost managers words again. So I tell my husband who originally was go to do it himself but he has a lot of overtime at work and figured let's see what they say...my hubby a retired mechanic now working as a hvac mechanic checked The tranny fluid and said it was not that bad and said he felt that rebuild was a bad idea but replacing the valve body first because it's the less expensive 1500 route and since this car is on Nissan bulletin list as having a defective valve body could be a good start...now if it doesn't work that would be our problem but they didn't offer that route and explain that it may or may not but it is one of your options..but straight to rebuild..which we weren't mad about because that's they route they would take and why argue with them about how they conduct business. So my hubby decided that thanks but no thanks and he and his mechanic buddy would do it themselves but it will take some time. So my hubby goes to aamaco to let them know hey I'm going to pick up the car and will not use your services at this time. The person immediately gets a rat up his blow whole and says I need to get 65 for towing..wtf what the check are you angry for why go from Cinderella to the hulk because we don't want to spend or hard earned money at this time...the way they were now was a clear sign they were passed because we didn't want to sell our limbs to them to fix the car. My hubby say no sir we were told it would be free of charge because of the mix up. The guy was now irritated and began to go toe to toe instead of calling the manager of the tow company and confirming this...by now my hubby is like I was going to get the car and wait to see if it was worth this fix or sell it (may take a couple weeks to figure) but don't want the car to start racking up storage fees..but if we decided to keep it we would probably use them if he never got the time to do it himself...but now the stank attitude is like a sign not to use them in the future. Whatever our reasons was to get our car should have been just that our reason..and they should have said thank you for your business and just remember us if you need us...but instead they asked my husband does he know what he is doing and getting nasty..then didn't even want to move our car he had to move it himself..wow is that how you do people. Really...it ended up a blow out between them and my hubby but it ended peacefully both men apologizing but they still had a very smug and I don't give a skit about you know that you aren't using us attitude...I'm really disappointed because I thought I found a mechanic that I could trust and refer my family and friends..now my hubby is going to do it himself which he is great at but doesn't have the passion for it anymore...or time. I just hope they realize you should treat people how you would want your mother or father to be treated if they were on the other end of the counter.
