Ninth Street Auto Repair & Transmissions

Unforgettable

When I brought in my car for rear end service, AAMCO Transmissions said it would be cheaper to replace the rear end with a new $1,700 rear end. Then after they put it in, they say it's used and it has $800 damage, and they wanted to charge me $800 in repairs. I said no, put in the old rear end and I'll go somewhere else. So they fixed it, and they ate $1,000 of the cost. They completed their end, and fixed the rear end, but they never adjusted my emergency brakes. I took the car somewhere else to finish the repair. They were very polite and courteous, I was just floored that they would put in a part that wasn't 100% functioning and then ask me to pay for repairs. They were in a pickle; their supplier gave them a damaged part, but then to ask me to pay for the repair was ludicrous.

This is always the dilemma when using used parts. It's a great experience when everything goes good, but it's hard for customers to understand that the risk they are taking by not getting any warranty falls on their shoulders when the parts go south. Our preference is to always do it right or not do it at all.
