They Couldn't Fix the Issue After Two Visits

i went in for some kind of transmission-clutch situation that was causing the car to make a noise, and a misfire in the fuel ignition system. $731 later the transmission noise had subsided some but was still there, and the misfire was still there. I went back the next week and spent a little more money with them. I even brought them a new fuel injector for them to install hoping that would help. So they didn't charge me that time for parts since I supplied the parts, but they did charge me for the labor and i still have the problem. It was close and convenient, so I stopped in and they said they'd take a look and that's what I got. They talked a good game, but nothing happened in the end. It was a nice facility, nice and clean. Good coffee maker. TV was on. Great waiting area. Ultimately, though, I left with same problems I came in with minus $800.

Mike,

I went back to the technician notes on your two visits. You brought your 1992 Chevrolet S10 in for noise in the manual transmission, and you stated that you replaced the throw out bearing and clutch were new about a year ago. Although we were unable to diagnose a problem IN the transmission without removing it and inspecting it on the inside (you stated you did not have the time to do this) we did find the clutch Master Cylinder was leaking badly and needed to be replaced. This may have been the cause of the noise you were hearing. In addition, the extension housing seal was leaking and the MAP sensor was bad. You approved the 3 repairs and we completed the work. In addition, we found the upper radiator hose leaking at the thermostat and tightened the clamp to stop the leak. We test drove the vehicle and could not decipher any distinguishing noise in the transmission that would be unusual for a vehicle in excess of 160,000 miles.

You brought the vehicle back and said you had an engine miss and the transmission noise is still present. We checked out your engine noise and performed a smoke test for leaks. We found the throttle body was loose and tightened it for you. All of the injectors were dirty and recommended they be replaced, which you declined. We also said you may very well have a dirty fuel filter, a plugged strainer on the fuel pump located in the gas tank or a weak fuel pump. You brought us a fuel filter which we replaced and yes, we charged you the labor to install it.

The bottom line Mike is the vehicle needs attention to operate properly. We can only give you the information not force you to do the work. Its a bit unfair to give us a failing grade when you declined to do the recommended work. The transmission needs an internal inspection which requires its removal and replacement after a bench inspection and the engine requires additional work to run smoothly. Although I am sorry the work we did perform did not cure all of the vehicles ailments, we are here to help you if you want it.
