Tough time - More compassion needed
I took my dog who had suffered a stroke to the hospital on christmas. She was a very old dog who had spent the first half of her life not being cared for but breeded at a puppy mill with no medical care. I don't feel the treatment was appropriate for her condition - she was treated for a possible ear infection and some motion sickness but no steroid was prescribed to try to swing her back. But the worst was that I was treated as if I didn't take care of my dog and as if I should have done more. I treat my dogs and my foster dogs as my children. At one point I was asked if I ever took her to a regular vet. Really? Instead I walked out of there with a very sick dog and a $300 bill for meds that were never used as she was put to sleep the very next day at my regular vet. I know it's a tough job to be an emergency vet but compassion would go a long way.
