Fixed an unusual problem
My A/C recently failed. Perfect timing, August in FL and we work from home. We called Cool Air for a service and they arrived that afternoon. The original diagnosis was a routine clog in the drain that needed flushing. As an experienced home owner (well, maybe experienced, but a bit tardy on my bleach treatment of the drain pipes), I said thanks, I can take care of this...
Well I flushed the drain myself and that night the A/C failed again. I called for another visit the next day and paid for the professional flush.
It failed also that night. The condenser would just stop and say No Mas. So I called again and the next day a new tech arrived and found there was some mysterious accumulation of water under the shutoff floater, even though the drain was clear. And this water (condensation really) was causing a shutoff. He adjusted the PVC pipes to flow better. On his way out it was blasting cold air.
That night I woke up in the middle of the night and it was 87 deg. I'm like, What? The next morning I called and because it was now Sat, I needed to wait for Monday.
Monday comes and the 4th different tech concluded I needed a proper grounding for my Nest thermostat. So he installed that and the unit was cooling fine on his way out.
Tuesday I get a call from Cool Air asking how things are going given the history of visits. "It failed again last night... it just cant keep up with the cooling demand and says no more."
So yesterday afternoon we get our 5th visit. I'll have to say were no questions asked about having to come back out a 5th time. And this tech pulled the pan cover off and called Rheem tech support and together, all the minds on this problem and it was finally fixed. We had it in the low 70s last night and it ran like a charm.
So, I would like to applaud Cool Air for their persistence. It wasn't a routine service call, but they got the job done.
