An Update To the BlueBerry Garpevine.
It is July 9 in Detroit. A rainy year, the most I have seen in several years. The BlueBerry Grapevine, thus far, has grown great. The green growth is noticeable. Lots of small clusters of grapes. I grew it in a spur prune method, so I may not be growing this right. The grapes are not to ripen until August 7 to 14. Nut to my surprise, they are ripening early and falling off the vine. They all are starting to turn, but too early. I doubt they will make it to harvest time. This is the first year for their growth, so I was not expecting much. I hope I will get to taste them this year. Next year I will treat with copper spray and try to spur prune back to 1 node, maybe I can get a better grape that way. I am wondering if this grape is for eating or for looking at??? Kinda sad though, I hate having to start varieties that are new to their cultures. Seems always disappointing.
