Review of the H850 Phil Jones Bass headphone

The new H850 headphones are a real treat for the ears. The sound spectrum of music played through them is even and balanced, with a distinct lack of coloration. Bass frequencies are solid and dry, and when I play my Sadowsky bass along with recorded music, I can hear myself perfectly in the mix, clear and accurate. The big surprise with these headphones is the high frequency range. They sound more like high quality studio monitors than most headphones, with sparkling and brilliant highs. I was expecting more drama in the bass end, but it is the high frequencies that jumped out at me. I heard sounds from my bass I had never heard before. I could hear the sound of my finger tips as they just barely touch my strings, even before playing the note. I am not used to this kind of accuracy in the upper sound range.

I am enjoying my recorded music more than ever with these headphones. The sound is elegant and refined and I am enjoying practicing at all hours without fatigue. The physical design is excellent. They are light and very comfortable. The fit over the ears with soft earpieces that swivel to lie flat for storage and travel, although I am not likely to take these headphones out of the house.

The cord is a wonderful light material with high quality plugs at each end. The plug going into the left earpiece has a twist-and-lock feature and feels solid and stable. The construction and finishing is equal to the great sound. They are a pleasure to use for any music, but especially useful for blending in a guitar or bass or keyboard into sound mix. Every part of the frequency range is treated with loving care, and my ears are thanking me today!
