Rockauto sells defective parts and restock defective returns as if the parts were new!!

I bought 4 Monroe quick struts for my car from Rockauto, when I received them every one was an open box with missing nuts in 2 of them, and when I picked up one when they were left on my front porch after delivery, the strut fell out of the box and almost fell on my foot, thankfully it missed, then I went to inspect the struts, one was rusted on the spring and all 4 were leaking hydraulic oil on the dust cover of the strut, so I called Monroe and they told me they will fail in a year if I installed them, I gave them the date code and it seems Rockauto is stocking old items because these struts were manufactured over 3 years ago, which would explain the leaking struts, so I was advised to return for replacement, since I bought them less than a week ago, so I contacted Rockauto for a replacement, but I asked them if they would agree to send me unopened factory sealed boxes, that have not been sitting on their self for 3+ years, they said that they could not do that so I requested a full refund so I can get these from a reputable company that has new parts, and Rockauto agreed.

So Rockauto sent me 4 return labels and I sent them back. Then a few days later I get an email from Rockauto stating that their warehouse found nothing wrong with the struts and were going to restock them and resell them as if they were new, and then added since Rockauto found nothing wrong with the struts, Rockauto will refund me minus the shipping, and that I will be responsible for the shipping. Well I was shocked, so I called Rockauto to talked to a manager, which I spoke to Mark C. (Which at the time I didn't know what a small company Rockauto is because Mark C. Is actually the 3rd ranking official of Rockauto, behind the operations manager, then the owner) Mark C. Was not very accommodating, even though I sent pictures of the defective struts and the hydraulic oil on the dust cover, he stood by his other employees and refused to refund me. I then asked to speak to his manager and that's when I realized I was talking to one of the top people at Rockauto already, and Mark C. Told me that he would have the operations manager (#2 guy) review the case and make a decision. I asked Mark C. To please have the operations manager call me one way or another, and he said he could not guarantee that and that I will have to call back to get the final decision.

I'm not holding my breath for his call or for the situation to go in my favor, based on my conversation with Mark C. I'm expecting to have to file a claim with my credit card to resolve this, which is a pain, but the customer service Rockauto gives is so horrible, and their parts are in poor shape, and when you return the defective parts, they argue with you that they are fine and will be restocked as if they were new.

So be extremely careful when you order part numbers 171266, 171946, 171945, these parts you will receive from Rockauto's warehouse in Tampa Florida might be the ones I returned, and I guarantee that you will be replacing them in a year!

We're sorry if this customer's package was damaged in transit. When such things happen, our Order Status & Returns page makes it easy to report the problem and find a solution.---------But we don't understand the rest of his complaint. It's unlikely the parts he purchased sat on our shelves for 3 years, but it's quite possible they sat in Monroe's warehouse that long. As with most manufacturers, Monroe makes a batch of product, puts it on the shelf, then fills orders from that supply while manufacturing other parts on the same machines. One batch may meet several years of demand for cars like this customer's 25-year-old Honda. ---------Steel and rubber don't spoil, especially when resting on a shelf, protected from light by a box, and coated with a thin film of oil (not "leaking") to prevent rust and keep seals pliable. We don't know why this customer thinks shocks we sold him will be "dead in a year" (or why anyone at Monroe would give him that impression, since there's no "sell by" date on their products). ---------Our return policy allows customers to send back unused parts within 30 days for a full refund of the part price, but shipping costs are not refundable unless we made a mistake. Delivering damaged or defective parts, as this customer originally claimed, would be a mistake. Supplying the perfectly functional, brand-new, fully-warranted parts a customer ordered is not a mistake.
