Dishonest about Carrier Recall

Apparently I’m the proud owner of cracked heat transfer unit in my Carrier furnace. Was never notified about it by Carrier or CC until of course it failed. I should have known better., as CC installed the water line incorrectly, so on the first cold day my furnace doesn’t work. They”re dishonest and shady. I found out the information about faulty heat transfer unit through another company, but of course CC wanted me to pay them $200 to diagnose it themselves in order to manage the recall, No thanks. Going with another operator who only charged $169 for the diagnostics, and they’ll work with me to get recouped from Carrier. What a mess…. Easily avoided if CC is pro-active with their customers when it comes to faulty products

Paul,

I understand your frustration with having a broken machine and we are sorry that happened to you.

We installed your unit in January of 2009. Our service records indicate that you have never used our service department for maintenance or repair. So the last time we had eyes on your machine would have been 15 years ago.

There is an issue with the heat exchanger in those machines and we have replaced many heat exchangers under the part warranty. To qualify for that warranty the part has to fail or have a Flue Gas reading of over 200PPM. This would have been checked during routine maintenance visits, with us, had you elected to use us for that. Otherwise, the only notification you would receive is the mailer form the manufacture.

As for us not taking another companies diagnostic; it is our responsibility to do a full system diagnostic before performing a repair. The number of problems and liability that come from taking someone else’s diagnostic is too long to list. I can give you an example from just last week. We had a client call to say another company came out and found a hole in their heat exchanger, on a 2 year old unit. We went and checked it out and found that the hole, was a screw that had been taken out. Case closed.

We will continue to be here should you need qualified service.
