I've been golfing for 6 years now. My first fitting and second fittings were in my first year of golf and one year ago. Both times I went to golf galaxy. Being new to golf even now I came out of both of those expierences very confused and questioning my selection I felt that they were just there to sell me clubs because outside of asking me how certain irons felt and me being able to visually see the yardage I was hitting them, they had no knowledge of the skill that is a true fitting. Or if they had, they def didnt care enough to try to inform me on anything. And being relatively new to golf I sure as $@!#% didnt know anything. I just wanted to go in and have them tell me why these specific clubs will be better for me. Fast forward to less than a year after my last "fitting" at golf galaxy i was recommended club champion by a friend. I went in feeling much the same way when I went to golf galaxy or any other big golf box store; nervous and unsure. After meeting with my fitter, Eric Madlung, first thing was to sit down and ask me about my game and what I was looking for. First thing next was getting a base line of my current irons. Then was hitting multiple shafts to find the optimal one Then on to club heads. Instantly I knew this is how a proper fitting is supposed to be . On top of just asking me what felt best, he backed everything up by showing me the numbers on their Trackman. As a novice, he explained what everything meant, and what was ideal and why it is so as well. As a novice, it was a huge relief that everything wasnt just a guessing game to me, and they has the numbers and stats to show me why this was better than that. I left after purchasing my irons feeling confident that this was how a fitting is supposed to be. Basically golf galaxy and the box stores felt like getting your car painted at Maaco. Club champion felt like a custom painter. Spend the little extra money and go here! You wont be dissatisfied
