Not nervous anymore.
I’ve only been playing for five months, and getting fitted seemed like it was reserved for “real” players and not something a beginner like me should consider. I was nervous to make the appointment, but very glad I did. Rick Lane was my fitter. He made me feel comfortable, listened to my needs, and was honest about recommending what I actually needed and honest about what I wasn’t quite ready for yet (which I really appreciated). Even being a beginner, it didn’t take long to see some pretty big improvements as we experimented with different club head and shaft combinations to find a great personal fit. Some felt instantly at home in my hands while others immediately felt wrong. Once we found THE combination, the improvements were very apparent
The breakdown:
New irons - Gained 12 yards carry with much tighter dispersion grouping compared to my current irons.
Wedges - My current wedges performed well and didn’t need to be replaced/adjusted.
Driver - I hit the driver terribly, but that was on me and not the equipment. Rick recommended that I come back after I’ve had more lessons/practice and can hit my driver more consistently to get the most out of the fitting. It was the right call and meant a lot that he didn’t try to send me home with a new club I wasn’t ready for.
Overall, it was an amazing experience that inspired confidence and excitement over my new clubs, and instilled trust moving forward for future fittings.
