The tech, Ray Salinas, told me I needed a new condenser fan and gave me an estimate of $1297. I asked why so much for a fan and he said it was 3 phase and it must be replaced with a Ruud fan, which cost over $900, his cost. He said he would also replace the capacitor with the fan motor. I had a friend who is a mechanic to look at it and he said the capacitor was bad and that is was a single phase motor. He replaced the capacitor which cost $4.60 at Grainger.
I called Champion A/C because of their great rating on Google Plus. They tried to rip me off by recommending unnecessary work. I would strongly suggest you get a second opinion if you call these people as they are crooks.
I asked for an estimate and requested he give me the model number of what part he recommended. He sent an estimate saying the outdoor air drive system needed to be replaced. It took several calls to get the model of the fan. I looked up air drive system and found no one calls the condensor fan an air drive system. I think he used terminology to try to confuse the issue and make it sound like an entire system. I will never use these people again and I recommend you call someone else!
