Champion AC

Felt taken advantage of...

I had a new AC system installed on July 5th, 2017. The 2 guys that installed it did a great job and answered any questions I had such as what is that and what does it do. Aaron, who came a few days before that to check out my old air conditioner was a different story. As soon as he got here I had to take a call from the funeral home where my young nephew had been taken. I was pitching in for his funeral. Aaron quickly looked at the unit inside while I was on the phone. When I got off the phone he told me he had seen some bubbles from a Freon leak and if I looked with a flashlight I would see what he was talking about. I looked with my flashlight. I saw no bubbles. I had not seen him with a flashlight while I was on the phone. We go to the outside unit and he points out a couple of things to me. Then he asks me If I'm going to do anything about it today. He had told me in the house he could show me my options available but he had not showed me any options outside before asking me if I was going to do anything today. I told him what about my options and he went to his truck and came back with an iPad with some options on it. He held the iPad and scrolled through the options not giving me enough time to read them and he was standing a couple of feet away So I couldn't really see them. I told him I felt like he was rushing me and I knew he had other places to be but I needed more time than that. After that he slowed down. I asked if I could hold the iPad And I scrolled back through them. We went through financing options and my credit is not very good. I ended up writing a check for the full amount of $6,200. He left here not telling me what brand I would be getting. I had seen online I was supposed to get a choice between Ruud or Carrier. I called the main number and a man there told me Aaron had not put down the brand and the man at the office told me they had been doing a lot of work with Carrier lately so that is probably what I would get. Nothing was mentioned about a rebate and I didn't think to ask. After I gave Aaron the check for the full amount and he had left, I was emailed the paperwork and I saw I was not eligible for a CPS rebate. Aaron did do some good things. He put down as part of my order for the wood under the inside unit to be replaced before the new unit went in. It really needed it. And he put down for the vent pipes on the roof to be replaced because they were very old and had some rusting. He told me he was ordering the system with a special type of filter and that would only need to be changed twice a year. He said I could get it cheaper online then from the company. But he didn't mention any prices. At this point I had just donated to the funeral home to help with my 37 year-old nephew's funeral and I told Aaron when he first walked in I had to take the call because it was from the funeral home. I wasn't on the phone for more than about 4 minutes with the funeral home.
There should have been much better communication from the beginning. I felt like Aaron wasn't giving me much information from the very beginning and then I felt like he was making decisions for me. I still have not priced the air filters. I felt like from the very beginning I really wasn't being given the time of day. Maybe it was because of first impressions? The house is getting repairs on the inside and outside and it needs a lot of work. Maybe Aaron felt I wasn't worth the time because it didn't look like I could afford it? I called the office and told them I was happy with the two guys that installed my AC And I told them how I felt about Aaron. I haven't heard anything back from the office yet. I wish I could have had a man here with me when Aaron came by.
