After numerous unreturned calls and a no-show by other contractors, I decided to go with Metal Roofing Systems (Gugger Construction) to install a metal roof. Right from the start, the customer service was pretty impressive. Mike from MRS handled almost all communications, including roof inspection and drawing up the final contract. Although his over-confidence can come off badly, it was probably justified since my questions were always answered promptly (via phone or email), nearly everything promised had been delivered and on schedule, and I felt like my business--even with a small home--was important to him.
The tear-down and installment took five days, as estimated, with four roofers/installers working eight hour days. I found the installers to be extremely competent, hard-working and polite (even to me, a female customer), and was happy to see that they did a general clean-up after each day. The soffit work alone that they did around the uneven rock surfaces of my home was simply fantastic (and probably a pain to install). I inspected and photographed the work progress twice every day, and the only fix I had asked for, right after it was installed, was a replacement of a short piece of dented fascia. This was never done. I asked the installers a second time if they would replace it, and we agreed that they would try to fix it instead and see how it looks. I wasnt happy with it and asked Mike if they could please replace it, to which he agreed, but later I found they had come by and covered it up instead. Still, their final repair of the fascia looks much better than the original installation. Another complaint would be the difficulty, or perhaps just confusion, with communication; who is in charge on the roofing crew, and if I speak to one of them, will my question/concern be passed on to the lead, even if hes not there? The last thing I want to do is constantly nag or mention the same concern repeatedly when I see it hasnt yet been addressed (like the fascia). I would have preferred a communication from Mike during or near the end of installation to help solidify the process. My only other complaint would be the final clean-up, which could have been better. Still, after having been in the home construction business myself, I am very happy with the overall workmanship and professionalism delivered by MRS and wouldnt hesitate in using their business again. I believe the positives of the entire experience far outweigh the negatives. The project was on time, on budget, and I would highly recommend their services.
