Kitchens for Less

Great Experience

If you are reading this review, you are probably thinking the same thing I was when I first looked into Kitchens For Less. "I've bought lots of little things on Amazon or other online retailers, but KITCHENS? Online? Can I trust that big of an order online?"

YES you can! The reality is that even when dealing with local vendors, everything is done on the computer and most correspondence is done via email and phone. The only difference is the local vendors have [expensive] physical showrooms. You can visit a box store for showrooms, and you can, as I did, order door samples and color swatches from Kitchens For Less. If you do some simple research, you will find that all the zillions of cabinetry brands are actually made by only a handful of manufacturers, similar to how GM makes Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, etc. The differences between brands are for the most part are minor, and in many cases there are no substantive differences, they just change the sticker so different companies can create the illusion that they are not competing. This is like a box store selling an appliance that is exactly the same as a local store except it has a slightly different model number. My long-winded point is that Somersby is Diamond, and they are some beautiful cabinets.

I am a builder doing my own home. This order was fairly large at 64 boxes. My local options were some lumberyards, the box stores, and a regional kitchen vendor. The lumberyards offered OK service, I had one Lowe's rep that was pretty decent but another that was awful. The service from the local kitchen vendor was appalling, despite a long term relationship with that company. I am able to design and specify my own kitchens, so I mostly just needed help making sure I had all the parts right for some of the more complicated areas. I wasn't fully satisfied with my local options, and the prices I was getting were a lot more than I wanted to spend. Victoria's service was prompt, professional, and very helpful. Best of all, I saved THOUSANDS, I took advantage of the offer to pay by bank check for even more savings.

The cabinets were delivered by a third party freight company, but they were great too. I had brought along a helper, expecting to have to unload the truck myself, but the delivery guys brought everything inside and neatly stacked.

The cabinets look beautiful. We used Whiskey Black on Cherry, Chocolate on Cherry, Tundra on Maple, and Black Forest on Maple. I was alone when I was opening them but I still found myself remarking out loud "oh wow! That is beautiful!".

The only drawback, which I just didn't realize, is that the upgrade to all-plywood construction results in the cabinet sides coming unfinished. This is not a problem when you have a run of cabinetry, or when the cabinets return into a wall, or when you specify furniture ends with the the door panels on the side. I was fine everywhere except for my vanity cabinets, so I had to order a couple pieces of 1/4" plywood skins to finish the vanity sides. Not a huge deal, and in the future I'll know better.

My parents are currently building their own home, with an even larger cabinet order (over 70 boxes). They were having the same experience I was with the local options, along with truly appalling service from the kitchen vendor. Their company has ordered hundreds of kitchens through that vendor, but they couldn't get pricing for their own home even after they gave them the parts list. It should take maybe a couple hours to price up a list, so you should get pricing within a couple days. They had waited two months and got almost nothing (which was my experience as well). When they finally did get a price from that vendor, it was very expensive. I told my mother about my experience with Kitchens For Less, and I said "give them a shot, you've got nothing to lose". Victoria did not disappoint! The feedback from my mother was "wow, she got right back to us with pricing, answered our questions, helped us make changes, and we picked out some different finishes and options that were even better than what we originally planned!" They are currently finalizing their order, and they are also going to save THOUSANDS compared to the other options.
I'm looking forward to working with Kitchens For Less on more projects. Great products, great service, great price! What else could you want?

Thanks again, Victoria!
