IMS Heating & Air

The IMS Heating and Air employees were courteous, friendly, professional and knowledgeable about heating and air conditioning as well as crawlspace duct work design.

The IMS Heating and Air employees were courteous, friendly, professional and knowledgeable about heating and air conditioning as well as crawlspace duct work design. The initial effort by IMS was to evaluate the original design problems with the duct work in our crawlspace and HVAC unit and to recommend solutions to resolve an inadequate system that was installed by the builder (Lennar) and contracted HVAC company (Smith & Willis). They talked to me about the deficiencies of the HVAC unit (being marginally sized for our house), inefficiencies for 40' and greater flex duct runs in the crawlspace, and a crawlspace ventilation fan that ran 24/7 venting interior house air through the crawlspace when the humidity is only 30%. Since I was intimately familiar with the poor design and installation by the original builder (Lennar) and HVAC company (Smith&Willis), I was pleasantly surprised when IMS recommended a more efficient and correctly sized HVAC unit, reducing duct runs from 40'+ runs by building a plenum extension to the west of the house (HVAC unit is on the east side) and running short rigid ducts to the west side of the house from the plenum extension. This was an elegant, simple and efficient design that overcame the problems with the original installation. When the work and testing was completed, it was immediately obvious that the design recommended by IMS resolved the heating problems. The entire house (single story 2,700 sqft) heats more evenly. When the temperature falls below the thermostat range of 71 degrees, the HVAC unit can rewarm the house in a relatively short period of time. The original system could take as long as 2 hours cycling every 30 minutes to keep the house at 71 degrees. In addition, the thermostat is set to 68 degrees at night. In the morning it only takes 20 minutes to warm the house back to 71 degrees. The initial system took over 2 hours to warm the house up from 68 degrees to 72 degrees. In the summer months, if the inside temperature rose to 73 degrees or more, the original system was not capable of cooling the house back to 72 degrees until the outside temperature dropped below 72 and we opened windows to cool the inside. From what I have experienced with the improved heating efficiency and duct design by IMS, I fully expect that the air conditioning system will work just as efficient in the summer time. A big thanks goes to IMS for taking the time to understand the deficiencies of our original system and to design and install a systems that work well.
