I placed a call to Pipe Works Services and inquired about the cost for the snaking of a main residential sewer line. The representative indicated she did not have pricing but reassured me it was a basic task as it pertained the services they provided. She stated although they do not provide pricing over the phone, the cost for a service technician to respond would cost $69, for a full assessment of the problem and solution, the charge could then be added as a credit for the overall service price. I scheduled an appointment and was advised the technician would provide a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to his arrival. Needless to say the notification was not made by phone, but a generic text message alert which was not accurate. The technician arrived over 2hours later, (had to reschedule an dental appointment as a result). The technician arrived and although he was friendly, was not well informed or experienced in my style of home, which is a common ranch home on a slab (no basement). He entered my residence took two photos of the bathtubs (which were not flooded). He then entered his truck, made a phone call and after about 10 minutes returned to say the line would cost $1200 to snake the main line. The audacity of charging an upfront charge, to create a pressured environment to commit to the quote for services is shameful, not to mention the charge of $1200 is absolutely ridiculous.
