A/C Masters Heating & Air Conditioning Inc.

The techs did a great job!

My air conditioner died, and since it was one of those that used the old style, very-expensive coolant, I decided to just put in a new unit. A/C Masters Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. I have bought air conditioners before, and I know there are usually three price levels - good, better, and best. I do not plan to be in this house ten years down the road, so somewhere in the upper range of "better" is what I wanted. Maybe $6,000 - $9,000 or so. Anyway, the gentleman came out to do an estimate for me, and to evaluate the old unit. I think he was the owner's son, but I am not sure. They have some sort of financing available, an interest free loan, so I applied and got approved for twice what I wanted to spend. The son called the father to come out, and as we talked, the son interrupted his father four or five times, to mention the amount I was approved for, and not the amount I wanted to spend. I told them I would think about it and the next day, after I finally settled on a unit in my original price range, I called the father back. He seemed somehow annoyed with me, like he was just putting up with me. I felt this was because I did not buy one of the higher priced units.

Anyway, the techs came out and they had the new unit installed in the attic within about five hours. I was very impressed with them. I did not know it at the time, but the main tech was working with a flashlight in his mouth, in the dark. And it was warm up there to say the least. The light in the attic went off when they cut the power to install the unit. If I had known, I would have loaned them my drop cord. After they finished, I started to clean up the attic area where I had moved things to allow them the access they needed. That is when I noticed a damper, that did not look right. I researched it online, and it appeared that it was set wrong. Since the tech had been working in the dark, I thought perhaps he never saw the damper. I called the company back, and the older man, who seemed annoyed with me earlier, assured me that his tech would have adjusted the damper. He was polite enough, but somehow I just got the vibe that he did want to deal with me, or have someone come out and check, now that there was light in the attic. And, they are only located about three miles from me. I went back to the damper, and it was not able to be adjusted. The damper had rusted onto the shaft, and it could not be moved. Therefore, it was obvious that nobody had properly adjusted it. I ended up putting a vice grip on it to place it into the position I thought it should be, and it is still there to this day. To sum it all up, I was very impressed with the actual techs who did the work. They did a great job for me, in a difficult situation with inadequate lighting in a very hot and humid attic. But I just got the feeling that once I decided not to go with the higher priced units, the owner had little use for me. That is why I gave the techs "Five Stars" for service, and the rest of the experience less stars.
