I put in a service call for my central air not working properly and was told the person would come in the late afternoon. I had a late morning appt and had someone wait at the house. Sure enough the technician showed up just after I left.
The technician was nice on the phone and communicated the problem clearly. He was paid in full for his services ($266) & I was told the issue was the motor. When I was later quoted a price of $925 for a new motor, (it was no longer under warranty), I asked them not to order it and spoke to my husband. We were able to obtain our own motor for $239. A friend, who is in the business, installed it for us, and said the issue may have been a fuse and not the motor. However we replace the motor anyway and still saved over $680. I just feel the mark up on the motor is excessive and labor was not included in that price. The entire process would have been at least a $1500 job and we did it ourselves for one-third of the price.
