We recently engaged Stilson Video Services to transfer 25 years of memories (dozens of tapes) that are now digitally preserved forever. The order involved VHS tapes from the early 1990's, Hi-8, and MiniDV videotapes. All were successfully transferred without incident. In fact, for a nominal fee, Stilson rendered the oldest VHS tapes through an App that significantly improved the clarity, crispness, and brightness of the final product. Having the opportunity to watch hours of our family's life together - watching the kids grow up again - is among the best purchases we have made in many years. We wanted to have this done locally by the best in the business and Stilson met our every expectation.
I researched other well-advertised services that have you pack and mail your tapes in a box after which they give you a cloud link for the results. Investigating ratings of that service revealed complaints about their technicians not converting all the tapes if any issue arises, and they don't communicate the issues as the transfer progresses. This was not acceptable to me as I wanted a real human being to work with, a local person who would communicate any issues, if any, and who would personally handle the transfer of the content so issues could be solved if necessary. Stilson Video Services (Bill Stilson) personally handled the work and communicated with me as it was completed which is why we had no issues in our video transfer.
