Advantage taken

My husband died about 5 months ago from stage 4 colon cancer. Before he died we talked about how I would have to hire a plumber to fix things on our house. He recommended CPI, as he spent 20 years in the industrial plumbing business. He said, they were good. I had the furnace, water heater, air scrubber system, and a laundry scrubber installed. I also asked that the shut off valve for the house be replaced. In addition I asked if there were any other issues under the house, I was told no, it was all good. That was over $9000. They said part of the duct work for the furnace was gone, so I paid an additional $670 to have the duct worked replaced. My father went out after they were done and said, you did not replace the shut off valve, the guy said, and sorry completely forgot about it, we will reschedule it for another day. I waited for 3 days for them to reschedule, nobody called, so I called them. At first they were nice, but then it became, this is extra work you didn't pay for, you did not ask for this to be done. After I complained to the manger, they agreed to replace it for "free". In the mean time I had a gentleman come look at my foundation to see if it was in good shape. It was, but he showed pictures of my duct worked for the furnace that had a huge hole in it, he also said there was a leaking pipe that would have been very hard to miss. He also stated that the there was no sewage, just water. I addressed these concerns to the manager again. They came and replaced the shut valve, repaired the duct work, that I thought I paid extra to have replaced and told me all my pipes are in desperate need of replacing and there is sewer all under my house. WTF. To say I feel taken advantage of, is an understatement. I was quoted $3000 by cpi to replace all the ductwork under my house. I contacted Barron plumbing and heating who are doing the job with upgraded ductwork and replacing my dryer vent system for $1100. I paid for an air scrubber system, it no longer works and they will not give me back my money for it. Taking advantage of widow is pretty low.

I don’t always reply to reviews…. positive or negative but feel in this case I should. I would like to start by saying that we did have a very positive working relationship with Mr. Vick and we’re sorry to hear of his passing.

We were contacted by Ms. Vick to replace her furnace. We came out to her home and gave her a price to perform the furnace replacement as well as some other repairs/replacements. Our installer noted upon his initial assessment that she had a very large rodent problem. Rats had chewed through the main duct in her crawlspace. Our installer didn’t feel comfortable crawling and inspecting the entire crawlspace with live rats, rat urine and rat feces in the crawlspace. He said he would assess the rest of the ducting/crawlspace once the rodent issue was resolved. She said she would have that issue resolved and cleaned up before we returned to replace the furnace /ductwork and perform the additional work. We returned a week later and the issue had not been addressed but our installer still performed the work, including replacing the section of ducting… even though there was still rats, rat urine and rat feces there. This is why some of her complaints of other issues may have been missed or overlooked. Replacement of the valve she mentioned was never discussed or quoted- maybe it was a misunderstanding which happens so we agreed to return & replace the valve at no charge. Ms. Vick next requested that the new laundry scrubber we installed be removed- We did so and she was issued a full refund. She called about two weeks later to say she had no hot water- We dispatched our technician to her home and found her father had inadvertently turned the wrong breaker off in the electrical panel- We did not charge Ms. Vick for this service. Ms. Vick called again to say that there was a foul smell coming from the furnace and that the air scrubber wasn’t working. We dispatched our technician out and he found a dead rat inside the newly installed furnace and documented this with pictures. We removed the dead rat- again at no charge to Ms. Vick. During all of these visits Ms. Vick was not home. We received a call several days after our last visit and two managers tried to resolve the situation for Ms. Vick and but she promptly hung up on both of them.
I will finish by saying we are all human and far from perfect but we try. Everyone here at CPI Plumbing & Heating really cares about our customers, doing the best job possible, and providing great customer service.

Respectfully,

Brad Tully
