My 83-year old mother needed a gas line to a stove disconnected and capped. Easy access - very straight forward. Sullivan would not quote their labor rate or their estimate for the job in advance. (FIrst Red Flag) They sent their person onsite and he quoted over 250.00 with a 40.00 discount. (wow). After spending 30 minutes onsite, the line was capped and my mother paid the 201.00. 201.00 for 30 minutes blew my mind when I heard this. I called immediately the same day and discussed the charges. While I felt it should have been 125.00, we agreed upon 150.00. They offered a 50.00 credit which I did not want because my mother doesn't need a coupon. I requested a check back which was forwarded to Genelle for approval. I called the next day and left a message. The next week, I called again and finally reached Genelle who advised that they could not do a refund (and also mentioned that my mother had received a 40.00 discount??? - my mom wasn't even aware that she had supposedly been given that???).

Essentially this firm charges 250.00/hour. This rate is at the high end and irrespective of value received by the consumer. A simple job, as in my example, should never have been charged this amount. The rate within the Pittsburgh market is in line with the San Francisco bay area rates which are among the highest in the country.

Bottom line. Find another contractor firm who cares about the experience and the customer feeling satisfied. For this money, there are a lot of other choices out there.
