Price Gouging
I called because our household AC stopped working. Over the weekend I isolated the problem to the prime suspect- a run capacitor. This is a $12 part online; $20 locally. Their technician confirmed that the capacitor was shot, and proposed to replace it for $350. Replacing the capacitor requires moving 4 wires, and one screw, and takes about 5 minutes total. (He also proposed to install a second capacitor for another $350, even though the manufacturer had replaced the dual capacitor system with a single capacitor.) Their practices are dishonest, and the reason that consumers cannot trust repair services.
