Deceptive electrical repair fee

Used a coupon for a free service call to fix an overhead light that did not work. Repair man told me he would have to do a diagnostic test for $234 to determine the problem. He did not look at the fixture. Had I known that was the only way the problem could be fixed I would not have scheduled the service call. I feel I should have told up front when I made the appointment that there would be a $234 charge just to diagnose the problem.

This customer had our tech out to look at some three way switches that didnt work. We told her over the phone how much the service fee is, she booked the call knowing we cannot diagnose her problems over the phone. When the tech arrived he spent 10 minutes with her looking at the electrical switches,light, and talked to her about what was going on. Then before any work was done we quoted her the price of the diagnostic repair to remove and check the switches, wiring, etc. She declined the work. That was her decision. At Curtis Total Service we quote all work upfront so you always know the costs before any work is done.
