I was misdiagnosed and wasted $75
My HVAC system kept tripping the breaker. I installed a new breaker, air filter then cleaned the coils. That worked for a few hours but the next day, it started tripping again so I called Coolray. The guy charged me $75 and said it was a wire that kept wriggling loses. I was like, Darn! I should've checked the wires. He added that if the problem continues, I may need a new compressor. WRONG!
A few days later, the switch started tripping again and one day the unit just stopped working. This time, I used YouTube to help diagnose it. Turns out, my starting capacitor had rusted out and was swollen; the run capacitor was clearly too small for the unit, detached from the mount and had a missing resistor. How'd Coolray overlook that?
A week later, I got my parts from EBay, installed them and now my unit is running like new - no thanks to them. They were a waste of money but what really made me mad was the guy saying I'd need a new compressor... if I was deployed, my wife would've been ripped off. I won't be calling them again. If I can't fix it, I'll call another company.
