Donmar Company

A gem of a technician and gem of a company

My A/C died on the hottest day of the year, of course. I phoned the company that installed it 2 years ago and they said that while the parts were under warranty, labor would cost me $90 just for them to come out and another $220 for them to do what I thought needed to be done. I said that was a bit like needing surgery and being told the surgery itself was covered by the insurance but not the material needed to successfully complete the surgery, and declined their service. Made a few phone calls and Donmar was the only company that was able to come the same day. The technician showed up on time and was waiting on my doorstep when I showed up a few mins later. We ruled out the thermostat and went downstairs, where he quickly determined the cause of the breakdown and fixed the few things causing it, all the while being very polite and patiently explaining why he was tackling the issue from a certain angle. I got my A/C back for less than half what the original company quoted. But the story's not over yet! The technician, Marco, left and in about 2 hours, the A/C cut out again. I phoned Donmar, left a message (this was at about 7 pm), and Marco called me back within minutes and walked me through what might be wrong. (We suspected the board was malfunctioning but I found that the switch inside the panel was just dangling there and probably was installed badly in the first place.) Marco said we might have to swap out the board but the part would be under warranty and labor would be 20 percent off. But after I was able to fix the problem, I suggested that we wait and see if the system continues to work before I drop a few hundred dollars on a new board for what is after all a new system. I do have another 8 years of warranty left, and if it IS the dangling switch, I didn't want to spend money unnecessarily, especially as I've had some major expenses in the last few days. He was fine with that and said he hopes he doesn't hear from me again until my winter check-up. Me too, Marco... me, too. A great company that I would recommend without hesitation. I wish I had found them earlier.
