MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead

Great place but has room for improvement

Morning Star Assisted Living & Memory Care at Arrowhead is a great place, but there are certain areas that could use improvement. Both of my parents are there and it seems to me that there is a lot of turn over with the employees. I am happy with some of the individuals. They also seem to have a lot of universal employees. The same person showering you might also serve you dinner. That just seems a little weird to me. The biggest problem I'm have now is that my dad is a diabetic and has a little bit of a memory issue. They don't serve diabetic food. I have to bring in diabetic ice cream because they will give him real ice cream. They don't monitor his food. I asked the nurse about it and she said they can't tell him what to eat. I guess I need to write a script for him as to what he can and can't eat. His sugar soared sky high one day and I found out he had blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Another time he ate pie for lunch. There are some good people that seem to be alright. It's a great place overall and very convenient to where I live. They have been there about 6 months and my mom loves it, but, my dad isn't doing so well. He fell a couple of times, now he has someone helping him in the shower. There is a button to call for help if they need it. I still monitor and give them their pills because the cost for them to do it there would be an additional $3200 a year for each parent.
