My furnace was acting up, so Lake's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning came out to take a look at it. My furnace is in the attic, and when the tech pulled down the stairs, a sign on it read, "Max Weight 250 Pounds." The tech was clearly far in excess of that weight, so he said, "If I break these stairs, my company is not liable for it!" A very pleasant person, right? Anyway, he went up the stairs, which bowed under his weight, and started taking things apart. He said that my heat exchanger was cracked, and I needed to spend $3,100 on a new furnace. And, that the new furnace would take three weeks to come in. I told him the home warranty people said it was probably something minor, and he said that home warranty inspectors know as much about furnaces as he knows about diets. After taking things apart, he then said he did not have the right parts to put it back together. After he left, and I was really glad when he did, I called another company to come out and look at it. They said the furnace just needed some minor adjustments. They charged me $90 and the furnace is now working fine. I really think Lake's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning was just trying to take advantage of a single woman!
