The Painting Company of Birmingham

Overall Experience Was Okay, But It Takes Homeowner To Be Watchful Of What Is Going On

The Painting Company of Birmingham did an okay job for us. This was our first time using them. A friend of mine referred them to us. We had them come out to paint the exterior of our home and some extra touches. It turned out okay, but they are to come out next week to do some finishing touches. There was also a delay in painting the fence, but that delay was on our homeowners' association. Part of what they are coming back out to work on is the trim on the house. Peter said that the builder did not use good materials for the trim work, that the wood is not good and that is why the trim doesn't look as good as it could look. The workers were okay. I did have difficulty with one of the workers. I had a contract with them about the whole scope of the project. Upon their arrival, I walked through everything with them. I showed this one worker the exterior fixtures and showed him in the contract that those were to be painted bronze. They had been damaged by hail and the elements so I showed him one that was under the porch and said the other exterior features should be painted bronze like this one. I also reviewed in the contract with him the screened in porch area. Per the contract the furniture was to be moved out, the area was to be power washed before they painted. This was the same worker that I reviewed these things with. I just happened to walk outside when he was about to paint one of the exterior fixtures and the paint, he had was gold. It was gold, not bronze as it should have been. When I said this is not to be gold it is to be bronze, he "claimed" that was all they had. So, I went to the store and purchased bronze paint for him. Sometime later when I walked out, they were already painting the screened in porch and all the furniture was still in there. They had not taken the furniture out nor did they pressure wash the porch. I asked Peter if this worker was a new employee. He said no, he said he has been there a while. I am just not sure how he could not follow something written clearly in a contract especially after someone walks through the property with you and shows you these things and talks with you about them. It was very disappointing. So if you are going to have your home painted I suggest that you have everything you want to have done written into your contract and make sure to go over it with the workers who come out to paint and make sure to watch them carefully. Peter and the workers were nice, but this was a lot to take in and deal with from The Painting Company of Birmingham.
