The Painting Company of Birmingham

Preparation And Proactiveness Is Essential!

I hired The Painting Company of Birmingham to paint the exterior of my 3700 sq. ft. chip and dale house. It is a very unique house with gable on the front etc. This house is approximately 22 years old, but in extremely good condition. I want to point out first that you can put paint on whatever you want but if you don't prep (sand, caulk, and prime) then the finish will not be as it should be. It took this company from the first part of May into June to finish. It still is not completely finished but I just got to the point where I was tired of having to supervise the overall project. I had a meeting with Josh initially regarding concerns that I had and in my mind that should have been the defining point where I wouldn't have to be the proactive supervisor. The meeting was to no avail and it seemed to me that Josh became reactive instead of proactive in his approach to my concerns. The staffing for this project was limited to one guy on the job with him bringing someone else with him on occasion to do the work. There was a serious lack of communication with this worker to the point where I am not sure he understood me when I had concerns about issues that arose. Some of the issues stemmed from what I consider large to small. One of the larger issues was that they painted and had not filled the cracks or caulked and I brought that to their attention. A smaller issue that I had was I went to move a can of paint and the lid wasn't put on and it spilled and I was already dressed for work and had to spend forty five minutes cleaning that up. I did take a hammer and close the lid properly after that. I believe I was fair with the feedback and the communication feedback was a little stifled on their end. I have called the house finished even though the gutters still need painting and there are some things that I have just decided I would fix myself or have someone else fix them. I just am to the point that I am too tired to continue trying to get these issues resolved. Juan the painter was a nice person and Josh seemed as though he wanted to do the job, I just felt as though he needed to be present and finding the obvious issues that I had to find and bring to their attention. The bottom line is the house does look good, but after the first meeting with Josh getting reactive instead of proactive in his communication, stifled this job a great deal. I don't want this review to affect anyone's job, but I think it is fair to say what I felt would benefit those that are looking at having their house painted.
