Mechanical Service Company

Likely their mistake; my cost.

I am a long time loyal customer of Mech Serv Co, and have been happy with them. Referred them to a number of other condo unit owners in my building. This last visit, however, I am unhappy.

My fan started sounding very loud for a time. After a week, I decided I needed a service man to check. I have a 10 year warranty and my unit is serviced under their ESA every 6 months--the last time was four months ago.

Repair man comes to check, and the pre-filter to my Trane Clean Effects Air Cleaner, was so coated with dust that hardly any air was getting through. It looked like solid dust as if someone had dry walled it!
I have the system serviced every 6 months under their ESA agreement, so I was shocked to see the pre-filter so thick with dust and debris. Only my wife and I are in the unit, and we are retired, and have had no unusual dust issues in recent years. Their was ten times more dust clogging the pre-filter than seemed possible if it were cleaned four months ago, as they were supposed to have done.

I feel that the last time the system was cleaned during my ESA servicing, the company rep did NOT clean the pre-filter. There is no way that it was cleaned four months ago, and became so dirty and clogged in just four months. I think they just forgot to clean the pre-filter, in their last visit, or several last visits, or more. That is the only way this pre-filter could have clogged up so much, so thick.

Despite my 10 year warranty and my ESA membership and routine servicing, Mech Serv Co charged me $69 for this visit, over my objections. I think the most likely cause of this problem, was their serviceman did not clean the pre-filter on his last visit. That is the only explanation that I can think of as to why this pre-filter was so thick with crud.

I asked the repairman to express my objections to his supervisor when he returned to the office, and to tell them they have an unhappy customer. He assured me he would. I expected a call. I have not heard from them.

I feel I was ripped off for $69! And, I feel my system was threatened by their not cleaning the pre-filter. The fan was overworking, and other major components could have easily been damaged, especially if I had not called them to check so quickly.

In the future, I will require their ESA service people to physically show me the cleaned pre-filter, and air filter, before they reinstall it.

This was poor customer service on the part of Mech Serv Co.
