The loaders/movers were horrible and caused property damage

I encountered an overall horrible experience concerning my move from my old home to my new home out of state.

I am one very angry customer. I am perplexed as to how I could pay so much money, expecting to alleviate some of the stress of moving and to protect my belongings, yet the load job was horrible. For instance, I initially walked the movers through my home pointing out what should be loaded and what should be protected, such as my bedroom furniture, which had not one scratch. Most unfortunately, since the loaders/movers did not cover the furniture and unnecessarily took out the drawers and carelessly stacked them like some junk, the furniture now has horrible deep scratches all over the solid finished wood; they also apparently yanked out the drawers (which I had wanted left in place) and caused damage to the tracks/rails such that some drawers won’t even go back into the night stands and media chest – the unload team did not want to attempt to force the drawers in; I attempted unsuccessfully. I asked emphatically for the loaders/movers to cover the furniture to protect it. They kept saying “relax, we’ve got this.” Unfortunately, I could not constantly watch them to see how they were loading everything; otherwise, I would have caught this. I did catch them attempting to load other items that had not yet been packed or wrapped and took these items back into my home myself. I thought they had done an excellent job – took their word for it that they were taking great care of me. Thanks to the unload team for pointing out all the flaws of the load and the consequent damage. I was horrified looking at freshly scratched living room furniture (solid wood coffee table with glass top), my badly scratched up bedroom furniture (2 night stands, a media chest and a chest of drawers), my mom’s, who passed 2 years ago, horribly damaged curio cabinet (scratches, structure damage--interior mirror detached and top part has separation from the bottom part) that I cherish, damaged lamp shades, badly dented refrigerator door and more. The movers even placed a very heavy car jack on top of my baby grand piano; thankfully, the professional piano movers packed they piano as they should have so there was no damage to the piano. I sure wish those contracted SML movers were professionals...

It is my duty to share my experience with others so that may avoid the pain and agony that I currently feel. I moved because my husband passed away, and this move has compounded my sadness and emotional pain. I understand that I am only one of thousands of customers, but I hope SML takes action to alleviate situations like this.

I called to file a claim and was told by Alexis that I’d receive the claim forms in my email on 12/17 or 12/18. However, to add insult to injury, I never received an email. So, I’ll try to find out additional information by looking at your web site. I have no idea how lengthy the claim process is, but in the meantime, I have been charged thousands, which is not at all worth the damage to my furniture or, more importantly, my mental wellbeing.

My nightmare is not over. I hope I can get some professional service soon without having to involve my attorney.

The unload moving team took pictures as they unloaded and will provide them to me. I also took pictures as evidence. If the loaders weren't so terrible, I would have given a better review overall.
