HinderRUST

Using HinderRust on Firearms

I had a conversation with an engineer at Fluoramics...
We had discussed whether or not HinderRUST would gel in cold temperatures causing malfunctions of trigger assemblies, firing pins and safeties in hunting rifles. Well, I did an experiment in order to see if HinderRUST could be used in these critical areas. I have an old .22 caliber rim fire rifle that someone gave me years ago. It was in bad shape... beat up stock and rusty metal. I refurbished it and brought it back to life. Since it is an old inexpensive rifle, I used it in my experiment. I took the barreled action out of the stock and started by cleaning it very well. I then LIBERALLY applied HinderRUST to the entire barreled action...barrel, receiver, trigger assembly, bolt assembly (which includes firing pin) and safety assembly. I did not wipe off any excess. I put it outside; it has been out there for four nights and three + days. The lowest overnight temperature was 10 * F and most nights it was in the teens. I would operate the gun every morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually worked better than it did before I applied the HinderRUST and put it outside. The action is "slick" and the trigger, firing pin and safety work fine.

This is very interesting... looks like HinderRUST is not only a rust preventative, but also an excellent lubricant - even in very cold weather. Since it will not wear off, disassembly of the firearm would not be necessary, after hunting in bad weather, unless the conditions were such that mud or dirt got in under the stock (not likely, rain or snow are the biggest concerns).
