FINALLY a replacement union was made and the leak that has been occurring since 2014 was repaired.
Here is the history of the leaking union:
April 15, 2014 – new furnace installation by McCarthy
May 7, 2015 Invoice # 55639 Brent – Found leak at union, opened and cleaned threads resealed no leaks
January 22, 2016 Invoice 59653 Nathan – Union has a little leak
December 19, 2016 Brent – Found gas leak at union. Applied thread sealant and tightened connection
March 9, 2018 Invoice 307968 – Brent W Found no leak said to call MUD. I WAS CHARGED $59.00 even though I am a Club Member and have been for several years, (and plan to continue as a club member) and the same problem has been recurring for 4 years.
On March 19, 2018 I called MUD – the tech red flagged the union and said that it needed to be replaced and told me to call McCarthy’s which I did. In the past I had been told by a McCarthy employee that since this is a trailer that I live in and that trailers are always moving- - that was the cause of the problem. The MUD tech said absolutely not.
March 19 2018 Invoice 459657 Hank – Union was replaced – no leaks. (I thought it interesting that the amount that I was not charged was $49.00 and the amount that I was charged the week before was $59.00)

In checking invoices prior to the installation of the new furnace in 2014, there were no complaints of gas smells coming from the union. It appears evident by the invoices mentioned above that this union has been a problem since the furnace was installed and through no fault of it being in a trailer. I have been a customer of McCarthy’s since 1991 (under the name Noveski) and have been totally satisfied at all times except this issue about the leaking union.
