I used this inspection company and lost a home that I really like and wanted to buy. The inspector, Jay Strauss reports on repairs that do not exist and alarmed me of what he thought was major repair to be non-existent. I loved this house I was contracted to purchase and was recommended to Americas Choice. Jay Strauss was the inspector and he came across as arrogant and a know-it-all throughout the inspection. His report had a laundry list of maintenance recommended repairs with 2 items I was concerned about. He said the slab foundation had a crack would become a major foundation problem and the roof had 4 years life left and needed replacing. I requested these 2 items and th seller refused. I decided not to buy the house and got out of contract with my deposit. A friend of mine decided to purchase the house and had another inspector. That inspector reported on less than half the items Strauss did, saying most of the stuff on Strausses report was basic maintenance of a home. My friend decided to have an engineer look at the foundation and roof. The engineers report said the foundation even though had a stress crack was solid and would have little if any possibility of getting worse and the roof had 10 years life expectancy. I was sick to hear this and it came from an Engineer to boot. Needless to say I would never recommend Americas Choice Inspection or Jay Strauss to any home buyer.
