Bovio Rubino Service

Time to find another servicing agent

Over this past New Years eve, my gas furnace -- less than 5 years old -- failed to maintain adequate temperature in my home. Since the "normal" service agency whom I have a service contract with and would call does not install Carrier heaters, I called back to Bovio, the original installer in an effort to get the heating system fixed faster, as we had guests for the holiday weekend, and the heater was still under warranty.

A technician was dispatched within two days, during which I used portable electric heaters and the oven in the kitchen stove during the daytime to raise the house's temperature to something we could live with while bundled in extra clothing. The first technician who came had me clean the air filters, took a few measurements with his test equipment, but did not explain what he was looking for (note this furnace had just been repaired for replacement of a sensor which had failed -- at the end of September, 2017. A new part (induction fan) needed to be ordered and installed. Two days later, a second technician came and installed the replacement part, tested the system, and left. The next morning the house was cold again. The replacement part had not solved the problem. Again Bovio was called, and a third technician came. This time the technician diagnosed a dirty heat exchanger as the problem and proceeded to clean the heat exchanger by spraying it with some cleaning solution.

All in all, the heater finally began to maintain some warmth in the house, although not as warm as the thermostat had been set. A week later (and with warmer outdoor temperatures) the house is finally comfortable once again.

The total charges for the three service calls (each time a day or two apart) exceeded $600. Cost was supposedly for labor charges only, since the parts were supposed to be covered by Carrier's warranty. In all it took much longer than expected and at a much higher cost than the amount of time spent in diagnosis and repair would seem to dictate.

I will find a different servicing dealer for any future troubleshooting or repair.
