Flooring Superstores Edmonton North

ongoing issues - money pit for flooring

Verrrrrrry unsatisfied with the product that Carpet Superstore sold us and the service they have provided.

All told we have spent over $9,900 for a vinyl plank floor (~1000 sq ft) and we have a floor that has HUGE GAPS between the planks.

This product was the second attempt by Carpet Superstore to fix a problem with the first flooring they sold us, issues we had with that first product (Centurity Vinyl Plank, professionally installed) - it was not laying flat, curling up at corners and edges, even though it was almost entirely glued down. Had to rip it out and try again.

Now second flooring product (Laurentian Flexiplank - professionally installed the second time by Diamond D Flooring) is gapping even though it is totally glued down.

Save your money and go with another flooring provider.

This issue was addressed immediately upon the client telling us about his problems. Client had installed the floor themselves and found that plonks were separating and warping. Carpet Superstores reimbursed the client for the original material purchased so that they could use that money toward a different flooring option. Our professional installation crew went out to the job site and installed the new flooring. After a few months, the client called to inform us about a similar problem with the new material, leading to Carpet Superstore having an expert inspect the site conditions for possible site specific conditions that could potentially be problematic. The manufacturer Rep went out to the job site and spoke with our clients about the problem. The product is Flexiplank Catalina installed professionally in Jan 2015. This inspector lifted 10-12 planks to inspect the floor in the worst area in the kitchen to attempt to determine the cause of the separation. The floor was laid over a 40-year-old play wood and although there were obvious humps throughout the customer insisted the floor did not obviously shift in the past year. The customer also indicated that torsion from the kitchen chair could replace planks and kicked against them with force and they did not move. There appeared to be sufficient adhesive applied and in the installation appeared to be professional and well done and the customer says that the job was tight together at time of install. A new carton of Flexiplank was brought to the jobsite and there was no size or width difference between the size of the new planks and the worst gapped planks from the floor. The product had all the stabilization elements of construction and this inspector’s opinion is that this is not a factory or installation concern. This inspector is concerned that because the floor is moving that the floor is creeping in the adhesive with the slight slopes on the floor over time and with twisting foot traffic or torsion at the pivot points although this is unlikely because the shifting is occurring in unused rooms. Or, most likely, that the customers home is shifting seasonally, perhaps even expanding with seasonal humidity. It was agreed with the customer that we would wait until before Christmas to follow up and see if the change in season and humidity create further shifts in the floor, and deemed he would have to go back in the winter to determine if shifting of the home was responsible for the problems with the floor. Until now, the client has yet to give us the opportunity to go back and look at the floor.
