A-Absolute Moving & Hauling

I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

If I could lower the stars to a lower scale I would. I had two experiences with A-Absolute Moving & Hauling. The first one, all I needed to move was the washer and dryer into the garage while my floor was installed. It was a very small thing to do and the experience was good.

However, I ended up moving 10 months later so I called them back, but that was when the disaster struck. We were only moving about 12 miles from where we live. I had to move from my two-story house. The manager came out and said that it would take about one and a half hours to three hours max! I was skeptical at the time. He proceeded to say that the furniture is the only thing that takes time, but that we didn’t have to worry much. He said we only had a lot of boxes. I was amazed to hear that. If they could move my belongings in 3 hours, I was impressed.

I was still incredulous about the estimate he made about moving our stuff in 3 hours. He gave us a quote and said it would be plus or minus the price he estimated. He also said that there was a one time fee of $75 for the rental and other things we need to move. I said that that was fine. So, then he told us he would be at our house around 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., but then he called us that he was running late and would be there shortly. He got there at 10:15 a.m.

After they came I gave some specific requests. Besides other things in the garage, I told him to make sure to get the extension ladder because it is so large it is hard to even haul it. It is a very long ladder of about 12 feet long. As I was trying to pack other things inside the house, I noticed they were moving the stuff really really fast. Him and the other 3 movers were stacking the stuff in the truck. I was impressed and amazed that they were getting stuff as quickly as they were.

I also specified that the washer and dryer needed the shipping bolts. You install them whenever you move and I made sure the shipping bolts were sitting on the washer and ready to go. Again, the were moving things and moving them really fast, but I didn’t know that the movers were just taking them by the truck and stuffing the boxes. When I came out, since I was doing other things inside the house, there was just a sea of boxed down there!

To emphasize, the said they were going to be done in two or three hours. Then, 5:30 pm. came around and there were still a bunch of stuff by the truck. This was December so it gets dark at that time. I asked the manager, who was on the phone most of the time, if they were planning to get the stuff inside the truck and if we would unload that night. He said that he wanted to talk to me about that because it was getting late and getting dark. He told me they would have to finish the next day and I was fine with that.

Next day came and I couldn’t take the day off my husband was there to unload -- which took them about 6 more hours. My husband experienced the absolute worst customer service. They were the perfect example of underestimating and coming up with a bunch of excuses for the overcharges. Our bill came out about $2000 plus the $75 for the rental of the truck. Those rental charges were a per day thing, and that was not what he said to me. The bid was maximum of $1000 in the beginning.

Long story short, they did not load the ladder and I found the washer and dryer without the shipping bolts. I saw if they were okay and my washer was not working right. We had to buy a whole new washer because the warranty said that if you don’t use the shipping bolts it invalidates the warranty and the serviceman told us it would cost about $800 to fix it.

In sum, they took two days instead of one. We paid double the amount (we had no choice) and they damaged our washer. What really irritated me was them not following directions. When I questioned their time estimate to move, I thought they were professional movers. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy.

Mrs.Bright, It has been brought to our attention that your overall opinion of our relocation services performed for you on December 18th and 19th, 2013 were not good. In fact you were very dissatisfied. Customer Reasons: (1)We were quoted a one and one-half hour to three hour maximum to perform at the initial assessment (1-1/2 to 3.0 hours) MAX (2)We were advised of a one-time $75.00 Rental Fee that changed (3)Our project took to long to perform (4) REQUIRED: Our washers shipping Bolts were not attached before moving the washer and dryer which resulted in a destroyed/replaced washer unit (5)We were assessed 12/19/13 or the 2nd day for another six (6) hours

AM&H RESPONSE to Customer Complaints:
A.Load Structure - 1808 sf; Two-Story Dwelling
B.Elevated Dwelling W/ Steep Access or Driveway
C.Mandatory for Equipment Stage at street level with household extraction at elevated level
D. Industry Certified Long Carry to and from equipment and dwelling

Conclusion: Mrs. Bright, we have in place quote/pricing guidelines and software that would never have approved even a managerial misquote by such a broad margin. It would have assessed all of the aforementioned and immediately identified and red lined or not approved the quote for errors.

RESPONSE to #1 ...An 1808 sf; Two-Story elevated residence w/long carry and 26.6 mile load to unload would never have been quoted at 1 and 1/2 to 3.0 hours to perform ....[Mrs. Bright based on your claim ...Would a customer with a professional estimate of 3.0 hour MAX ...times $135.00 p/HOURLY (equivalent to $405.00) accept a $1000.00 bid ceiling from the SP to begin with?

RESPONSE to #2 ...Presently there is no service, equipment, supplies, etc at AM&H that requires a RENTAL FEE. However AM&H does assess a mandatory [not to exceed flat rate] EQUIPMENT/TRAVEL charge to each project. That equipment/travel is assessed in increments of $99.95, $109.95, $119.95 and so on based upon the projects point to point mileages. The E/T is always discussed with the potential customer on the front end, as well as defined in the submitted hard-copy quote. Both signed invoices #654 & 655 and the initial signed quote reflect and E/T of $99.95 consistent with the initial job order/assessment.

RESPONSE to #3 ...As previously stated:
An 1808 sf; Two-Story elevated residence with a steep/sloped access, I.S. Long Carry and 26.6 mile load to unload would never have been quoted at 1 and 1/2 to 3.0 hours to perform. Nine plus months ago and we yet cannot imagine how this misunderstanding of the professional moving procedure to perform our day to day operations occurred. ...We Apologize!

RESPONSE to #4 ...I am personally responding to this review because I was the Project Manager assigned to the K. Bright-Residential Relocation Project on 12/18 & 19/2013. It is policy that the assigned project manager be attached to the assigned project from start to finish. When assigned it is his/her duty to gather and log ALL pertinent project information to schedule, dispatch, and perform the requested service. The initial project documents do not reflect any specific mention of shipping bolts to secure the washer/dryer units in any manner. Moreover, I have personally operated in the area of management at different levels in the moving and relocation industry for 19 years and my present team and I relocate 150 to 200 washer/dryer units (via residential, commercial, or pick-up/delivery) annually. Respectfully, I have never heard of securing the drums to relocate a washer/dryer unit. There are new an innovative appliances being introduced into the markets daily, but as of yet we have not picked-up and delivered one from a local delivery site (STORES) nor one from a residential/commercial customer requiring bolts on a side by side unit. Yes, bolts for a top/bottom mounted unit; but that's a different rigging all together. I have never experienced a damaged washer/dryer in all my years in the industry. They are one of the easiest furniture items to move. ....and also:Typically an appliance claim or high ticket item(even if discovered long after the movers are gone) damaged during the relocation is immediately reported by the customer and forwarded to our claims administrator. It's simply not the norm for the customer of a damaged high ticket item to wait ten months to mention it.

RESPONSE to #5 ...Invoice #655 Dated 12/19/2013 has an assessed 4.5 hours for the 2nd days service.

As always ...We at AM&H have at least attempted to address the concerns of this review of services rendered. We very respectfully apologize for any misunderstanding or mis-communication before, during, or after the relocation process. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity given to assess, quote and perform your project. However, as your SP ...If there is any reasonable manner by which we may arrive at a comfortable medium we are interested and willing to investigate. .....Thank You AM&H
