ACC Medlink

CAUTION! Advertisement very misleading

My very ill mother was transported by ACC Medlink across states lines (19 hours). My aunt and I went along on board to ensure we were getting what we paid for as well as making sure my mom was comfortable. We chose this company over others because of the amenities and supposedly "excellent care" that was advertised on the website. We made sure that ACC had capabilities of administering tube feeding, suctioning equipment, basic patient care and an overall smooth ride. All of these things were either not met or were done in a manner where it's called "winging it" and hope you get it right. When they arrived the hospital nurse gave the medlink nurse a report on all of my mother medicines and when they were due next. My first impression was not a good one of the nurse but I felt like I had to give her a chance. Before heading out my aunt asked the nurse whether they had suctioning setup ready along with the oxygen and tube feed. She ensured us of all of this. While on the trip the nurse struggled to get the tube feed pump working and it didn't have a clamp to keep the pump off the floor. When it came time to suction my mother the nurse struggled again to get it to work. I ended up showing the nurse where to plug the tube into the machine. I thought these people were supposed to be prepared?? I was so bothered by this. I had to tell the nurse to take a set of vital signs on my mom so at least you would be able to have something to compare it to. Then the nurse gave me the paper with my mother medications on it so I wrote down times her next medicines were due. She never asked for the paper back so I wondered how would she know when my mother medicines were due. I ended up telling her when each medicine was due and she would come to the back to administer the medicines. I thought I was being pranked or something. Not long into the trip the driver was driving like a patient was not on board it was a lot of sharp turns and rough bumping. I asked them to slow down and they complained about the roads but you can drive careful regardless of the road condition. My mom was shaken around ALOT regardless of the gurney straps. Also if the driver drove over a hump in the road the back end of the truck would hit the ground so hard that it sent a shock through the entire truck. They tried to explain that it was the wheelchair harness attached to the back of the truck that made truck feel that way. The RIDE WAS HORRIBLE!! Mercedes comfort my $@!#%!!! But this the service we got for 10 GRAND. My aunt sat in the captain chair behind my mother's bed and the seat was BROKE! The buttons did not work to move the seat backards or forward. It had a spring coming up though the bottom part of the seat almost ripping her pants. She had to put a pillow under her to keep from getting stuck. The nurse didn't pay attention to my mother...THE PATIENT at all unless I said something. This company is a joke and I would hope that nobody would have to go through what my family went through. The nurse was inexperienced and lazy at one point I woke up saw her sitting up there in the passenger seat. I know the drivers had to take turns sleeping but don't advertise that you can accommodate family members when you actually can't because the nurse should focus on patient care and the drivers focus on driving and road safety. I was very disappointed in this service and if your family is not halfway ambulatory DON'T USE THEM because the care is not there. Very UNPROFESSIONAL AND WHAT THEY ADVERTISE IS NOT THERE!! If I could give negative stars I would.
