Defective High End Refrigerator/Freezer-will not help in an exchange.
I wish I had read the customer reviews online before we bought our appliances from Standard TV & Appliance in Beaverton. I am a very unhappy customer. We spent approximately $8000 on three high end appliances in September 2017. The French door refrigerator/freezer began a frost build-up in the freezer after a couple of weeks. I called for a repair technician who said there was a defect on the inside of the door which was allowing air into the freezer; requires a new door to be made for this model & it would take weeks to get a replacement door. This had to be a defect in manufacturing or shipping. I called our salesperson (Ed) to see if he would help. As the refrigerator/ freezer was obviously damaged before it was delivered I asked for a new one. He said that we didn’t purchase the extended warranty & only had a 30 day warranty so we were not eligible for an exchange. (I called on the 34th day even though I was having problems before this time.) Ed suggested I call Customer Service. After Standard talked with Whirlpool/Jenn-Air Customer Service, Whirlpool/Jenn-Air agreed to extend our warranty an additional 6 months. Later further problems with the freezer developed: 1) the door alarm was dinging 30 minutes every hour 2) even with the humidity button on, there is a build-up of moisture inside the refrigerator portion 3) there is a continual build-up of frost in the freezer 4) and because the door won’t seal properly, the freezer light is on continually & works like a night light! I called Jenn-Air Customer Service asking for a new unit & was told my warranty was only good for service and repair & my freezer door isn’t coming until JANUARY!!!! After multiple calls to Jenn-Air asking to speak to someone who could help with an exchange my result was a lot of “I’m sorry but you are only covered for service & repair” and they offered an additional 6 months of warranty & a $200 gift card! This entire problem should have been handled by Standard to begin with by exchanging this faulty refrigerator/freezer with a new one. They tout themselves as a family owned business since 1947 – I think it is about time someone from the family steps up & makes this right. It seems to me this company is more concerned with selling appliances but is very short on customer service.
