I am a resident at the United Methodist Communities at The Shores. I was a nurse and was married to a physician for more than 50 years. My biggest disappointment with this facility is that they have those with dementia and alzheimer's grouped together with those of us that just need assisted living. I thought that the socialization would be a plus with those that are of the assisted category. It is very difficult to have a meal with those suffering from these types of illnesses because the nurse in me and the compassion in others tends to stop cognizant conversations to help those with greater issues. I am not without compassion but do feel as though those patients need to be treated differently due to their illness. I myself am legally blind. This facility does have a call button and sometimes they are slow to respond but do eventually respond. I understand that they may be short staffed and their bottom line is important. The entertainment here is quite good and more than enough to choose from, being blind however does have some limitations. The food is good and I will eat anything that is put in front of me. I feel the staff truly care about their patients and I think that the employees work very well together as a team. The building itself is laid out nicely and navigating is not an issue with my limitation. All in all this is a good place to reside with the exception of that one issue with the more needy patients.
